A 8 settimane i nostri cuccioli MAINE COON ricevono la prima vaccinazione trivalente contro Gastroenterite virale, la Calicivirosi e la Rinotracheite infettiva, dopo circa 21 giorni, secondo i protocolli vaccinali i cuccioli Maine coon ricevono la seconda dose di vaccino.

Mamme e Papà MAINE COON sono negativi per FIV FELV , malattie virali pericolosissime e HCM. La Cardiomiopatia ipertrofica (HCM) è una malattia genetica poligenica, attualmente solo 2 dei 9 geni responsabili sono stati isolati in laboratorio, pertanto il test genetico è assai limitato mentre diventa indispensabile l'ecocardiografia al cuore con cadenza annuale, un riproduttore portatore di uno dei due geni riconosciuti, ma con ecocardio regolare ha le stesse probabilità di un gatto non portatore di sviluppare la malattia, l'unica restrizione per il portatore del gene è che non può accoppiarsi con un riproduttore portante lo stesso gene in quanto potrebbero nascere una percentuale di cuccioli malati. Nelle nostre linee genealogiche non sono mai stati riscontrati casi di HCM nemmeno nei nonni e bisnonni.

In commercio ne esistono di diversi tipi, dalla più semplice a quelle chiuse, con filtri, per evitare odori. Il mio consiglio è di scegliere il modello in base al luogo destinato all'intimità di micio maine coon. Se si tratta di un balcone o terrazzo riparato la semplice lettiera aperta sarà agevole per lui (che non sa mai dove mettere la coda) e per voi (quando dovrete pulirla). Se dovete sistemarla in casa dipenderà da quanto la stanza è frequentata. Non serve spendere una fortuna in ghiaia, a meno che micio non abbia qualche allergia, la più funzionale è quella agglomerante.
